ScreenComply

    For Students and Test-Takers

What ScreenComply does on your computer, and what it does not.

If you have been asked to install ScreenComply for an exam or assessment, your institution should explain the session settings and where to get help.

    When does it run?

Proctoring runs only during the exam window, not as monitoring of your personal activity outside the exam. Your institution should tell you when the session begins and ends and what you need to do to join it.

Installing the app and participating in a proctored exam are different things. Ask your instructor or testing contact to explain the session timing if it is unclear before you begin.

What is recorded, and what is never collected?

During the exam, ScreenComply records high-level session observations and timestamped evidence for your institution's reviewers. The selected checks are intended to support an assessment integrity review, not to decide your grade or make an automatic cheating verdict.

It does not read your files, log your keystrokes or monitor you outside the exam. Your webcam is not used unless your institution turns that on and tells you. Ask for a plain explanation of the enabled checks and who can see the resulting evidence.

How do you install and uninstall it?

Use the installation link supplied by your institution or assessment organizer. Follow the installer prompts and your exam instructions, and complete any setup check before exam day. If your device does not allow installation, contact the organizer before the session rather than changing managed-device settings without permission.

After the exam, you can uninstall ScreenComply through your computer's normal app removal settings. Close the app first, select it in the installed-apps list and follow the removal prompts. If another assessment is scheduled, ask the organizer whether you will need to install it again.

What if something goes wrong during an exam?

Contact the exam's designated instructor, proctor or testing support team immediately through the channel in your instructions. Explain what you see and when it happened; do not include passwords or unrelated personal information.

Follow the organizer's guidance before restarting or leaving an active assessment, because the LMS or testing system may have its own timing rules. A technical problem is not an automatic misconduct decision. Your institution decides how to handle interruptions and any rescheduled assessment.

What about accessibility software and performance?

Tell your institution about accessibility software or approved applications before the exam. Ask it to confirm the accommodation and session settings; do not disable assistive technology you need simply because you are unsure how the policy applies.

There is no promise that every device will experience no performance impact. Try the institution's setup check in advance, and report lag or a device problem to the testing contact so it can agree an appropriate plan.

Who can explain your record and your rights?

Your institution or assessment organizer controls the review process and retention policy. You can ask it what was recorded, who can access it, how long it is kept and how to request access, correction or deletion under the policies and rights that apply to you.

If evidence raises a concern, ask for the relevant context and the opportunity to explain through the institution's review process. For a product support question that your organizer cannot resolve, use the ScreenComply contact page without sending exam answers or sensitive data.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is ScreenComply spyware?

No. It is exam-scoped proctoring software used to provide evidence to your institution, not covert monitoring of your personal life. It does not read files, log keystrokes or monitor outside the exam; ask your institution what it has enabled and how your data is handled.

    Does it watch my camera?

Not unless your institution turns camera checks on and tells you. Ask the organizer before the exam whether a webcam is required and what the notice says about its use.

Can I remove it after the exam?

Yes. Once the exam is over, close the app and remove it through your computer's normal installed-app settings. Check whether an upcoming assessment will require installation again.

    Does it slow my computer?

Performance can depend on your device and exam setup, so no zero-impact promise is made. Complete the organizer's setup check beforehand and report any lag to its support contact.

What if I use accessibility software?

Tell the institution before the exam so it can confirm your accommodation and the permitted applications. Do not disable software you rely on without an agreed alternative.

Does it read files or record what I type?

No. ScreenComply does not read your files or log keystrokes. It provides exam-scoped observations as evidence for human review.

Who decides what a finding means?

Your institution or assessment organizer reviews the evidence and applies its policy. ScreenComply does not automatically fail your exam or decide that you cheated.

Can I ask what was recorded about me?

Yes. Ask your institution what was recorded, who reviewed it and how to request access or deletion under the applicable policy and rights. The institution controls retention and the response process.

    Your Assessment. Your Questions.

Ask your institution before the exam.

Your organizer explains the exam settings, support arrangements and the process for reviewing your record.
